Located in the center of Kyoto Prefecture of Japan, Ayabe covers an area of 347 square kilometers and has a population of about 40,000.
With its picturesque scenery and a long history, Ayabe is abundant in tourist resources. Widely considered as the cradle of Japanese Oomoto, it was also the first city in Japan making a proclamation of peace declaration.
The city features a distinctive economy with lifting machinery, auto parts, socks, clothing and food manufacturing and processing as major sectors. Its agricultural products are mainly rice, taro and tea.
On May 12, 1989, Ayabe signed Friendship City Agreement with Changshu.
