Located in the northwest of Kagoshima County of Japan, Satsumasendai covers an area of 683 square kilometers and has a population of about 100,000 .
Boasting a simple folkway, Satsumasendai is famous for its beautiful landscape with numerous natural hot springs. In addition, its fireworks show, tug-of-war competition and Koshiki Island’s leisure tour package are very popular and widely acclaimed.
The city enjoys a balanced development in its economy. There are some scale enterprises in its urban district mainly for integrated circuit, precision instrument, paper pulp production and shochu brewing. Its coastal district has facilities of port, thermal power plant, nuclear power plant and liquefied petroleum gas station.
On July 26, 1991, Satsumasendai signed Friendship City Agreement with Changshu.
